The first major adventure for the Scott family was planting the original grapes in Marlborough – a region now world renowned for wine.
Almost 40 years later, there have been a few changes: the Scott family has grown to include two more generations, and their wine has accumulated a large and loyal following. However, their commitment to quality and pioneering spirit has remained the same. Once again, they are breaking new ground with their premium Scott Base range. With a longstanding love of the Central Otago region, the Scott family went searching for the perfect spot to develop the new generation of Allan Scott wines. They wanted to create an aromatic wine that spoke of Central Otago and was distinctive in flavour.
The Scotts found a six hectare vineyard overlooking the Cromwell Township framed by the Pisa mountain range that was to become Scott Base. The north facing terraced slopes and mature vine age were the perfect combination to create an exceptional range of wine. Focusing on harvesting only the best fruit by hand, the wine has a velvety depth and intensity unique to the Scott Base range. The name celebrates the family’s adventurous spirit and their fascination in the southern expedition to Antarctica.
Today, the Scott Base vineyard is managed by the Allan Scott Family Winemakers Viticultural team and is well positioned to become an icon of the Central Otago region.
