Coming
from a Canterbury farming family, Allan's first contact with the
wine industry came in 1973 as an employee of a major wine company,
assisting with the original vine plantings in Marlborough. After
several years managing a major vineyard, he resigned to head a national
viticultural team for another of the major players. In this role,
Allan developed an interest in the winemaking process as well. This
interest eventually led to the establishment of Allan Scott Wines
and Estates Ltd.
An associated business of contract grape growing and a busy viticultural consultancy were the early background to the company, with Allan being instrumental in the development of many of the region's vineyards along with localized vineyard husbandry techniques. Allan's key role as Director of the company is to manage production and marketing aspects along with the coordination of all facets of the business.
Catherine is one of the few personnel of the Marlborough wine industry who was born and bred in the province. A fifth generation Marlburian, she also comes from a farming family. She trained as a nurse at Wairau Hospital, Marlborough and nursed in Christchurch.
Having travelled extensively with a good eye for detail, Catherine has a discerning palate and plays an important role in the winemaking team. As a Director, her main activities are sales, administration and management of the cellar door/restaurant, while having an all-encompassing responsibility for all aspects of the company.
Today Allan Scott Wines is a truly family business - with son Josh as winemaker, younger daughter Sara also has her Winemaking and Vitcultural diploma with local and international winemaking experience, and has taken up the position of viticulturist. Elder daughter Victoria is involved with public relations and the promotion of the Marlborough region as a whole.

He is a Director of several large local companies with national and international branches and connections, which enables him to travel extensively to maintain up-to-date and first-hand knowledge of business and economic conditions. This has proved to be invaluable in the continuing development of Allan Scott Wines and Estates Ltd and various other Scott family interests since he became financial adviser in 1998.
