VITICULTURE - First organically produced wine signals a
greener future
The family itself provides all the incentive the team at Allan Scott Family Winemakers needs to adopt environmentally friendly methods. After all, the vineyards and winery has to be safe and productive for our children and grandchildren!
Apart from the wider ecological concerns, this is why we use as little as possible chemicals and energy, while using organic inputs and recycling wherever we can.We launched our first organic wine in 2008.
Sara Scott has replaced chemical sprays with organic agents such as compost teas, seaweed and other oils.
“Organic viticulture is about working with the environment to produce a product without harming the environment in any way,” says Sara. “Organic viticulture aims to sustain and enhance the fertility and life-supporting ability of the land.”
The vineyard is audited twice a year by an independent auditor to make sure it complies with all the necessary organic farming regulations.
“Only organic products are used for the winemaking process, and we use recycled bottles and recycled paper to label our finished wine wherever possible.”
