Allan Scott Marlborough 'Prestige' Pinot Noir 2003
This is the second release of Allan Scott Wines Prestige Pinot Noir. Although the vines only have an average age of seven years, the combination of well managed vineyards and mature fruit ensures a quality wine is maintained.
Viticulture
Pinot Noir is one of the most labor intensive grape varieties in both the vineyard and the winery. After initially pruning to two canes in winter, the vines then have a host of other activities carried out to ensure a high quality is achieved. These techniques include; shoot thinning, leaf plucking, bunch thinning and then hand harvesting when the grapes are at their optimal balance and ripeness.
Vinification
The grapes are hand-picked in the cool of the morning, after which they are promptly destemmed, and cold macerated in tank for up to 7 days. Fermentation is then initiated, with a rigorous routine of hand plunging commencing, four times daily, until the fermentation dies down. The wine is then left to macerate on its skins for a further 10 days before being drained, settled and barrelled down into mainly New French Oak.
Description
A very powerful wine that has concentrated dark berry fruits and a hint of spice from the ripe fruit and New French Oak. On the palate the wine is very rich with chocolate notes, dark cherry and doris plum flavours and integrated tannin creating length and a long finish.
Serving Suggestions
A great wine to be served with wild game or red meats. Also very enjoyable with a wide range of cheeses or just enjoyed on its own.
Serve at room temperature.
