Allan Scott THE MOORLANDS Marlborough Riesling 2005
Our Prestige Single Vineyard range of wines are produced from our best estate grown grapes and reflect low yield vines and meticulous viticulture. Special attention in the cellar in terms of handling, employing high tech and traditional methods, result in these elegant wines of limited production. The ‘Moorland block’ which directly surrounds the winery contains some of the oldest Riesling vines in Marlborough. Due to their maturity this vineyard consistently produces quality fruit year after year.
Viticulture
Now nearly 30 years of age, these vines are now well established. Pruned back to produce no more than 3.5 kgs per vine and with leaf plucking, the vines have the ability to produce an extraordinarily consistent and quality wine.
Vinification
Harvested by hand in the coolness of the early morning. After pressing and the normal settling/racking process the juice was then fermented in a 50 / 50 combination of stainless steel and old oak barrels. During ferment the wine is tasted daily until a desirable residual sugar level is reached, after which fermentation is stopped and the wine allowed to mature on its lees
Description
The Moorlands Riesling has a distinctly European style having been lightly oaked in old barrels. Off – dry with lifted aromas of honey and citrus, and lime marmalade flavours it has a textured palate with nicely balanced acids. Perfect for drinking now this wine will age beautifully
Serving Suggestions
Riesling is a preferred accompaniment to a wide range of foods. This wine is especially enjoyable with savoury and spicy dishes, with cheese or simply on its own. Best served lightly chilled, The Moorlands Riesling is guaranteed to improve with age if carefully cellared.
