Allan Scott Marlborough Unwooded Chardonnay 2006
Without any influence of oak, Chardonnay can show us just how complex and vibrant the fruit can be.
Viticulture
As with all our vines, Unwooded Chardonnay is treated with the same care and respect in order to achieve ripe flavoursome grapes that can be crafted and transformed into an Unwooded Chardonnay style.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested under cool conditions, then crushed and pressed. The juice is settled overnight then racked to another stainless steel tank to undergo “oak free” fermentation. Once the primary fermentation is complete the wine is then inoculated for malolactic fermentation. This softens the wine and increases complexity. The wine is then fined, filtered and prepared for bottling in a similar time frame to Sauvignon Blanc.
Description
With elegant and varietal aromas of apricot and spice on the nose, this is a medium bodied wine with a soft round palate showing ripe peach and stone fruit flavours, with subtle hints of spice and biscuit and a lingering finish.
Serving Suggestions
A strong food wine akin to its oaked relative, however it can be equally enjoyable on its own. Serve chilled.
