Allan Scott Marlborough Riesling 2007
The Allan Scott Wines’ “Moorlands” block, which directly surrounds the winery, contains some of the oldest Riesling vines in Marlborough. Due to their maturity this vineyard consistently produces quality fruit year after year.
Viticulture
Some of these vines are now nearly 30 years of age, and are very well established. Pruned back to produce no more than 3.5 kgs per vine and with leaf plucking, these vines produce an extraordinarily consistent and high quality wine.
Vinification
As in other years, harvest occurred in the coolness of the early morning. After pressing and the normal settling and racking process the juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks. During the ferment the wine is tasted daily until a desirable residual sugar level is reached, after which fermentation is promptly stopped.
Description
Medium dry in style, this is an intense and aromatic Riesling with an array of citrus aromas dominated by grapefruit and lime. These flavours follow through to the palate, while a distinct minerality is backed up by a well balanced structure of soft phenolics and mouth watering acidity. This wine will develop more complexity with age.
Serving Suggestions
Riesling is a preferred accompaniment to a wide range of foods. This wine is especially enjoyable with savoury and spicy dishes, with cheese or simply on its own. Best served lightly chilled, Allan Scott Riesling is guaranteed to improve with for many years if carefully cellared.
