Allan Scott Marlborough Pinot Noir 2001
After deciding not to release a 2000 vintage Pinot Noir the 2001 is a major step forward in the evolution of developing our own distinctive style.
Viticulture
Viticulture plays a huge part in the success of making good Pinot Noir. The most adapted red variety to cool climate growing conditions makes it particularly suitable in the Marlborough region. Judicious winter pruning to single can cordons along with spring shoot removal to minimise cropping levels are key vineyard husbandry techniques.
Vinification
Always hand picked at optimum ripeness and crushed into specially made open toppped but refrigerated stainless batch fermenters. To assist the extraction of soft tannins the ferment is 'hand plunged' four times daily. Once the frement is completed the wine is pressed out and placed in a mix of new and older 225 litre French oak barriques for maturation.
Description
Medium dark crimson colour with mildy spicy cherry/plum aromas. A concentrated mix of sweet cinnamon spice and blackberry flavours blend with subtle oak treatment. Soft and mouthfilling with expected youthful astringency from a young vineyard. Will develop with age.
Serving Suggestions
Served best at room temperature and allowed a little time to breathe. A suitable accompaniment to gamey meats, savoury dishes or on its own.
