Allan Scott Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2002
After the very dry season of 2000/01 it was difficult to guess what the weather would produce for the growing season of 2001/2002. The spring continued to be especially dry with the first substantial rains coming in the early summer causing some concerns a floraison, which proved to tbe unfounded. The summer though initially cooler became an extended warm period and has produced another stunning vintage.
Viticulture
With more of our Estate owned vineyards now producing fruit we are able to take full advantage of the individual flavours of the varying sites. An open canopy ensued because of the very slow early growing season with much less leaf growth than would be expected in a 'normal' season
Vinification
No change from our previous method where free run and first cut juice was pressed off, chilled and held over 24 hours to allow settling. The juice was racked, preceding fermentation was carried out over 15 - 20 days. The various 'batchs' were bought together for the final blend which cold stabilised and made ready for bottling
Description
Strong tropical fruit aromas are an obvious first impression with very ripe 'gooseberry' and currantyflavours together with subtle nettle herbaceousness. Racy acidity is balanced with a small amount of residual sweetness.
Serving Suggestions
Always acceptable when served lightly chilled as an aperitif or serve with seafood, pasta or salads
