Allan Scott Sauvignon Blanc ‘Vineyard Select’ 2002

A very prolonged harvest period produced splendid Sauvignon Blancs with loads of character and vitality. A relatively easy year viticulturally which went on to produce another distinctive vintage.

Viticulture

The majority of the blend for Vineyard Select Sauvignon Blanc is derived from growers vineyards. The 2002 harvest produced slightly higher yields than expected which was a legacy of an excellent preceding growing season. Above average ripeness was achieved as some of the fruit was able to be left on the vine longer because of the long warm harvest period.

Vinification

Each growers grapes are harvested and vinified separately to ensure the difference in flavours are able to be appreciated and bought together for compatible blends. A slow cool temperature controlled fermentation of 10 –15 days ensures maximum flavours are retained.

Description

2002 Allan Scott Vineyard Select has a myriad of tropical fruit characters with usual herbal overtones. A hint of gooseberry/citrus flavours are apparent as is a modest residual sweetness which gives a softer mouthful when combined with the racy acidity.

Serving Suggestions

Being a medium dry Sauvignon it is an excellent accompaniment to seafood, pastas, white meats and salads or very refreshing on its own. Serve lightly chilled.
