Allan Scott Marlborough Chardonnay 2004

The vintage of 2004 provided excellent growing conditions at our Chardonnay sites allowing ripe fruit development and balanced acids.

Viticulture

As our vineyards develop with age definitive characteristics emerge, particularly in the more diverse locations within our blocks. Winter pruning to two canes and limiting bud numbers reduces the crop to maintain quality. Leaf plucking around the bunch zone ensures an increase in flavours and aids in achieving optimal ripeness.

Vinification

The majority of juice is barrel fermented in new or 1-3 year old French oak barriques, with a small portion tank fermented and transferred to barrel. After partial malolactic fermentation the wine is left to mature on its lees for 6-8 months. During this time regular ‘battonage’ is performed on selected batches and the wine is left to develop a particular flavour profile after which it is then blended and bottled.

Description

Allan Scott Chardonnay displays ripe stonefruit characters, a light creaminess on the palate and a trace of French oak on the nose. The palate has good length and structure originating from concentrated fruit and acid balance, ensuring this wine will age for several years to come.

Serving Suggestions

Designed as a food friendly wine, it is recommended with most dishes particularly pasta or chicken or simply enjoyed on its own. Serve lightly chilled.
